Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Avaya IP Office Subscription?
Avaya IP Office Subscription is a new purchasing option for on-premises Avaya software. Customers subscribe to use Avaya on-premises software for a specific quantity of Unified Communications users and/or Contact Center agents, selecting between pre-defined feature bundles and between the choice of monthly or annual payment options. This subscription requires a 1- or 3- year contract which includes Avaya software – including access to deploy the latest releases as available, and Avaya support services. Devices can also be purchased as a subscription or financed using monthly or annual payments – resulting in a single bill for software and endpoints.
2. What is the difference between perpetual licensing and subscription models?
The primary attribute of perpetual license is “ownership” – which means that once you purchase the license you have the right to use the associated software forever. However, perpetual licenses require a separate contract for support and upgrades, as well as an up-front CAPEX payment. In addition, the renewal and change effort for perpetual licenses is significant. The primary attribute of Avaya IP Office Subscription is “flexibility.” The purchasing contract and management processes are significantly simplified since support and software upgrades are included in the single contract. The large upfront capital expenditure is replaced with smaller monthly or annual payments.
3. What software is included?
Avaya IP Office Subscription is available for the full features of IP Office including telephony, unified communications, and contact center.
4. What services are included?
Standard IP Office Support Services (IPOSS) are included with the subscription offer:
- 24X7 remote technical software and hardware support
- Access to the Avaya Support website
5. Are phones and devices included?
Phones and devices can be purchased via the traditional CAPEX (all upfront) model or by using Avaya’s Device as a Service to subscribe to devices with a monthly payment. With Device as a Service, the ownership of the phones and devices remains with Avaya, and you can cancel, change or upgrade your devices at any time.
6. Can I move into Subscription if I don’t have a current support contract?
You can convert to Avaya IP Office Subscription whether you have software support or not.
7. Why would I move to subscription without upgrading my software? It seems that continuing to pay for support on my existing release would be the cheaper option?
Avaya IP Office Subscription is designed for customers that desire to get or stay current with Avaya software. In this case, moving to subscription provides a lot of benefits. One key benefit is the right to upgrade to the latest software release whether you previously had upgrade rights or not. You will also have access to better pricing for other software, hardware and devices used with the software.
8. How is hardware handled with Avaya IP Office Subscription?
Hardware (such as servers and gateways) and the associated support are not included in the Avaya IP Office Subscription packages. Hardware must be purchased as a capital expense and required advanced parts replacement support needs to be separate from the IP Office Subscription contract. The exception is remote technical support for the solution which is included in the Avaya IP Office Subscription packages. However, the capital expense for the hardware is at a much lower cost than to buy a full IP Office system so it still reduces your CAPEX significantly!
